Kids Memorial Marathon

Jaxon Pierce Burleson led the Kids Memorial Marathon this morning...all 2,499 kids were behind him, for about 30 seconds. That had to be one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Brett and I have laughed and laughed all day long talking about it. I did my normal speech on the platform, and then I came down to stand outside the fence while Brett, Sierra and Pierce waited for the countdown to start the race. As usual, they were standing at the very front of the pack. Last year, we had 1400 kids, this year, we had 2500+ register before we cut-off registration. That is A LOT of kids...not to mention the ones that didn't register and all the parents that were there walking with them. As Ron Walker counted down, I kept thinking to myself that JB was going to get run over by all those kids. Some of them were 12 years old! As they neared...5, 4, 3, 2, 1....I look up, and JB is out in front, leading everyone in a dead sprint. I was thinking to myself, what the HECK is Brett doing letting him run by himself! Well, apparently JB took off running because he wanted to win. As he ran, people started cheering, so JB threw his arms up in the air as if he'd just crossed the finish line. By the time Brett caught up with him, he had pulled over to the side, bent over, hands on his knees..breathing like he'd just run the full 26.2 miles and was exhausted. For the next mile, Brett carried him, exhausted on his shoulders. He had his moment of fame, and to him, he did win. He lead the start, everyone cheered, that's all he needed. Leave it to our little JB...he can always make you smile. Sierra, she did run the entire time. Once she finished the race she was my little helper. Always doing exactly what you ask, and more. I am so blessed to have them in my life.

Well, another promotion under our belt. I always seem to dread these for some reason. But once they're over, I'm always glad we did it. Especially when we do it as a family. What a great day for a race!

Once we returned home, the kids played on their new fort all day long. We even cooked out and the four of us ate dinner "upstairs" in JB's fort. Sierra has the first floor. She planted flowers and hung them downstairs. JB has the second floor...he has Spiderman all over and dad is painting him some signs to go outside. One says "BOYS ONLY", although Sierra is allowed when no other boys are there :)

It was a busy day...a race, playing in the fort, friends over, and we even all rode scooters to the pond to throw rocks. To top it off, Dad and JB went to get movies and JB was asleep before they got out of the neighborhood. Sierra crashed shortly after.

Now it's our turn. Brett is already laying in bed reading a book. I just had to share our fun day.

Have a great week!

When the cat's away...

The mouse will WORK! I have spent the last two days cleaning the garage, cleaning the house and finding ways to stay busy. I'm not sure what I did for 17 years when I was single. I can't seem to find enough to do while Brett is in Dallas. One thing is for sure, I'm productive!

Brandon spent the last two days with me and it's been great having him here. I really enjoy spending 1:1 time with the kids.

Brett hired a guy to put the kids play-fort together and he and his son have been here for 5 hours putting it together. They have about 10 hours to go. This thing is massive and I'm so glad we didn't tackle it ourselves.

Well, I have tons left to do before I go to bed so I better get after it. I'm the type that pulls everything out to clean and now I've got a huge mess.

Hope everyone has a great week! It's now up to 60% chance of rain on Tuesday. Is JB ever going to play t-ball? We'll keep you posted!

Update

Well, it's been awhile. I keep saying I'm going to get better at this and the next thing I know, it's been weeks! Our lives seem to be moving at such a fast pace. We had another great week with the kids. Sierra lost her 5th tooth this past week and she looks really cute! She is now missing her front two teeth and one bottom tooth. She is also making a killing from the Tooth Fairy! Luckily, Sierra likes to save her money. I'm afraid JB will be like his older brother and money will burn a hole in his pocket.

So far, JB has only played one out of four t-ball games. It seems like it rains every Tuesday. I will keep everyone posted when the games resume.

We have been doing some home improvements around our house lately. We had a Pergola built on the back porch, purchased a HUGE wooden swing-set/fort for the kids, and in the next couple of weeks we have a landscaper coming out to re-do our backyard and add an above ground pool. I think we will be living in the backyard once we are finished. We decided to go with an above ground pool for now until JB gets a little older and because of our new addition "Pudge" a 12 week old Bulldog. Not sure Pudge could swim if he fell in. He is 12 weeks old and 17.7 lbs. He gained 4 lbs in one week!

Update on kids:
Brandon got a call from the Twins, but it was not a permanent position - only filling in for several catchers that were hurt so he respectfully declined. Please keep him in your prayers because this has been a very difficult time in his life. He still wants to play pro ball, but not much he can do at this point. He went ahead and applied at the Edmond Fire Dept (as a back-up plan) and scored a 94 out of 100 on the first test. He was in the top 10%. He is taking the second round of tests today. This isn't really what he wants to do, but feels he needs to have something - just in case.

Megan is doing well and only has 11 weeks to go until Hudson is here! We went Wednesday to her 3D ultra-sound. It was amazing! I can't believe what they can do. We could see little Hudson's face and he was constantly biting on his hands. He has chubby little cheeks and looks like a very large baby. He yawned several times during the ultra sound and Paul, you're going to like this, in one photo he had his hand in the "hook em horns" upside down and the technician said, looks like he's a Sooner! Megan is very happy and planning a November wedding.

Sierra is really growing up. I can't believe she will be 8 this fall. She is ready for summer to get here and always wants to help us. She is such a sweetheart and she and I go shopping whenever we get the chance!

JB is also changing daily. He has turned into such a little gentleman. Dad has really been working with him on his manners. The other day I took him to Target, and as we were leaving, he ran and opened the door and said, "ladies first". haha He is looking forward to being an "uncle" and talks about what he and Hudson are going to do. Poor Sierra is kind of out numbered with JB, Brandon, Hudson and Eli (her new little brother). I'm not so sure being the only little girl is such a bad thing :)

Brett is doing awesome at work. God has really blessed him. He leaves today for a business meeting in Dallas and then he's off to Florida (I think), in about a week. I am very proud of him and can't believe how far he has come in such a short period of time. Good things ahead!

My work is also busy. I have been in the process of hiring a Sponsorship Coordinator for the past month. She has been gone since April 13 and I think I'm in denial. I do not like interviewing people and so I keep putting it off. In the meantime, I'm doing my job and hers. I'm going to try and hire someone this week and hopefully things will slow down. The newspaper is really changing and becoming a Multi-Media company. We even have our own studio upstairs, podcast and are getting ready to hire on-aire personalities. Ever evolving... The nice thing is, our dept is growing and looks like this is the direction the company is headed.

Hope every one is doing well. I will try and post more often and keep every one up-to-date on our family.

Happy Easter!

A lot has gone on in our lives the past few weeks...

JB started tee-ball, we have a new 10-week old Bulldog named "Pudge" (actual registered name is Sir Major League's RBI Champion Stud - seriously), and we've been upgrading our back yard (patio covered, landscaping, etc... So as you can see, life is busy (and fun) as usual. I don't think I have laughed as hard as I did at JB's first game. When we arrived (me, Megan & Sierra), they had already begun play. JB was playing catcher, but seemed to be more interested in the dirt behind home plate than he was the actual game. In fact, two runs scored and he didn't even know it! LOL He did get a good hit, but most of this kids didn't have a clue. Brett is one of two coaches and it was fun to see him "back in action" again.

Today has been an awesome day. Brandon went to church with us, and we've just been hanging around the house ever since. Not much to do on this "cold" day. I sure wish it would hurry and get warm because we have so much we want to do outside.

Sierra is still doing well in dance and can't wait until school is out. As always, she just got her report card and she is leading the way in 1st grade. If we could just keep her from "mothering" the entire class. LOL

Brandon was released from the Royals about a week ago, so that has been tough on everyone. He is currently talking to an agent and hoping to be picked up by another team soon. Baseball is his true love and we really think God will open some doors for him. The agent told him this might turn out to be a good thing, because it releases him from his 6 year contract with the Royals. Now if he's picked up, he will write a new contract. Keep him in your prayers.

Megan, as most of you know, is expecting a boy "Hudson Scott", July 4th. She is growing daily and hopes he is not as big as BL when he was born (9 lbs, 3 oz). She and Heath have been talking to Sharla and plan to marry early November. Seems like our family is keeping Sharla busy these days!

Brett is doing awesome in his job and we are both staying really busy at work. We wake up every day and feel blessed with our family.

Hope everyone has a great Easter.
