Kale Powell

I have questions for Jesus when I get home. I have already asked. Maybe it is just the fact that my mortal mind cannot comprehend the fact that helping people is not why we are here (though Kale did that beyond most 18-year-olds). Maybe it is the fact that being the "All-American kid" is not why we are here (though he was every bit of that). Maybe it is the fact that he loved Jesus and shared his faith with others... maybe it is the fact that through his death (and what he faced head on), he has touched more people than he even did in his life on earth - which was attested to by the droves of people in attendance today (see Kelly's post below).

Maybe it is just not for me to know yet. In fact, maybe it is selfish to WANT to know until He is ready to let me in on the answer... but I am sure going to continue to ask.

Kale will be missed - but only for a season....

Kale Wayne Haney Powell 1988 - 2006. <- That "dash" means everything.

Hi, Brett & Kelly,

I read (or heard) a saying that I love. A healthy child is the image of God the Father and a hurting child is the image of His Son. I think of that often as joyous times come and then when hurting times come. Different sides of the Almighty who created us and we get to experience such a range of emotions and experiences.

Have you guys read anything of Joni Earekson Tada? This quadraplegic has been a speaker several times at our rally. Joni is in her late 40's and was paralyzed from a diving accident at age 18. A statement I've heard her say several times in response to people asking how can she be so gracious through her traumatic life: God's grace is unending - and sorrow (or trauma) expands your capacity to experience HIS GRACE. And even though Joni has her times of depression and questions, the underneath foundation is one of trust in HIM.

You as Kale's friends, and his family must have a great capacity to experience HIM through this time of separation from Kale. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of this amazing young man. I love you. And our prayers are with you.

Thank you Cherri. It always helps to hear encouraging words from others because it's so easy to question your faith in times like these. Someone at work the other day said to me, "I don't know why God answers some prayers, and not others"

Kale was an inspiration to us all and fought hard these past few years. It was evident at his funeral the impact he had on others.

This really hit me hard and I guess it is the reality of having a child that same age. I keep telling myself I have to give it all up to God for only he knows the answers.

Thanks again Cherri. I feel privileged to be a part of this family.
Love you,
KB

I just posted a blog on vtmbottomline before I read your words here Brett. You and Kelly are saying what that paragraph on prayer says...Somtimes God is silent and lets us work through some deep often hurtful emotions to come to some answers on our own but never all of them.

You guys are what I believe true followers of Christ are suppose to be...real, questioning, willing to wait for answers but honest about the pain of waiting, and learning about the Lord and your walk with Him through it all. May your tribe increase.

Tell Megan we love her and will pray and think of her much the next few days.
